The electricity and telecommunications sectors are fundamental and strategic for the technological, financial, social, cultural, political development of a country. The composite transmission systems, among other structures by towers and transmission lines, are usually installed in open places, hills, mountains, fields, where they suffer the effects of the weather from nature such as exposure to the sun, winds, rains and storms. Properly designing transmission structures to withstand nature’s stormy actions is essential for a good integrated power transmission and telecommunication system. Any damage to the structures can have harmful economic, natural and human life consequences. In this sense, being able to design structures foreseeing the efforts due to the winds is necessary. One way to predict these efforts is through studies using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to forecast aerodynamic efforts. The CFD can be used both in the design stage and in the evaluation of structures already built. Another application would be in the design of aerodynamic containment barriers to reduce the effects of winds on the structures.

There are several applications of 3D computer simulations for Telecom performance gains.

Among the applications, we can highlight:

Analysis of thermal exchanges of equipment in cabins and cubicles, for better energy efficiency.

Analysis of the aerodynamic efforts caused by the winds in the structures, to reduce costs.

Analysis of natural barriers to increase safety.
